The Isle of Tiree is the most Westerly island of the Inner Hebrides. This small, idyllic, beachy island is famous for fertility, with its name originating from the Gaelic Tiriodh, which translates as “land of corn”. It is sometimes dubbed as the “Hawaii of the north”. The island also has some of the highest levels of sunshine recorded in the British Isles, aided by the influence of the Gulf Stream.
Tiree is highly fertile, with crofting, alongside tourism and fishing, being the main sources of employment for locals. Windsurfing, and other water sports, including kayaking, are popular in Tiree.
